Getting to Know Us: Russell McIntyre
Q. What is your job description?
A. Service technician. Actually, I have worked in all departments of the company. Water and sewer, irrigation installation, irrigation repair, and water filtration. During the mid 1990’s I managed the retail store in Sebring.
Q. So how long have you been with the company?
A. Since 1982.
Q. How did you get started?
A. I had worked with my father installing irrigation during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In 1982 I interviewed with Lionel and Kenny LaGrow and was hired. In 1993 Lionel offered to sell the business to Keith and I. We became partners and expanded the company from seven employees in 1993 to over twenty in 2007. Keith LaGrow is now the sole owner of LaGrow Irrigation.
Q. What would you say your specialty is?
A. Probably pumps, I was trained by Lionel in everything from reading pump curves to designing pump stations. This includes everything from repairing, and maintenance, to replacement of pumps. This experience has helped a lot over the years in servicing our customers when they are out of water. Another specialty that has evolved is in water filtration. I like troubleshooting. Getting to the root of a customer’s problem and being able to resolve it is very satisfying.
Q. What is your favorite time of the day?
A. Morning, because everything is so crisp and clean, when you get up in the morning everything just smells different and feels different, like the night air has washed everything away, I’m talking early morning, when the sun is first coming up!
Q. What do you like to do in your free time?
A. I like to fish, hunt and garden! I’ve always lived in the country, in rural areas.
Q. Is there anything that you are truly passionate about?
A. I’m passionate about my God, I’m passionate about going to Heaven one day. I’m very passionate about honesty and integrity. That is very important to me.
Q. What do you wish that others knew about you?
A. That I have been married for 33 years to Ginger and have a 28 year old daughter that is a veterinarian in Highlands County, and a 26 year old son who works for Northwestern Mutual in Ft. Myers. Both of my children are happily married. I am proudest of my wife and children. I got married at 18 and we’re still going strong!
Q. Any final thoughts?
A. I believe in what we do. After 32 years I still enjoy going to work!
