Our featured person this month is our very own Lindsey Sears. Lindsey is the Service Coordinator at LaGrow Irrigation, but did you also know that she is a talented singer? Yep, aside from Lindsey's personable and professional customer service, she also has won several local singing contests and has even recorded a 10 song demo CD. She is married to Aaron Sears since 08/08/08! (What a great anniversary date!) And they have 2 daughters, Alyssa 9, and Kassidy 5.
Q. So tell me how you started singing?
A. I would sing Somewhere over the Rainbow over and over when I was 5 or 6 for my family, but never really thought that performing was my thing. I would sing behind closed doors, in the car, in the shower, and I didn't really start singing for other people until I was old enough for Karaoke! I enjoyed performing, and was encouraged to sign up for some local competitions.
Q. So how did you do in the competitions?
A. In 2009 I competed in Heartland Idol and placed second, this was my first experience with singing in public, even competing vocal wise. The same year I won first place in a Karaoke contest in Sebring, which was so much fun singing and being with the people of Highlands County. This was a contest to win 8 hours of free recording in a studio in Tennessee. This is where I recorded a 10 song album, my first demo in February of 2010.
Q. Where there any other competitions you participated in?
A. I tried out for both X Factor and American Idol which gave me a lot of valuable insight on how the industry works.
Q. What have you gotten out of these competitions?
A. Because of my public appearance in Heartland Idol, I get calls from the community to sing local gigs like Christmas Parade for Buttonwood Bay Retirement Community, Fall Festival in Avon Park, Tanglewood Cancer Benefits, etc.
Q. Do you want to pursue a professional singing career?
A. Well I guess, who wouldn't want to? I would really love to have my own band one day, to play locally.
Q. What is your favorite style of music to perform?
A. I like to perform country-rock, and modern blues, if that makes sense!
